Country Hearts 4-H held their annual summer day camp with the theme “Food is Fun”. The campers had relay races using food, made their own ice cream, crafted with food, and tasted food from a demonstration. The day long camp was held at the fair grounds on June 30.
The camp is available for all club members and their friends and family. Members 13 and older may serve as camp counselors. Prior to camp, any counselor who wants to participate helps come up with ideas for the day that fit the camp theme. The camp theme is created by the main committee.
Country Hearts has held a summer day camp for over 10 years. Each year is filled with fun activities that surround a main 4H theme. There has been rocket camp, sewing camp and insect camp. There are judging activities and demonstrations at each camp.
This camp featured a food demonstration by Crystal Futrell. She is employed with the extension office in Family and Consumer Sciences, and she focuses on healthy eating. She talked about making peanut butter ball snacks and then had campers do a taste testing. She offered alternative ways to make the snack using a variety of foods .
Summer day camp is a great way to have fun before the fair gets underway.
