The 1:1 Initiative was implemented into the high school in January 2016 with great success. Beginning in January 2017, all three middle schools will be introduced to the Chromebook, and it will be provided to students.
The 1:1 Initiative is an instructional implementation to support increased access to digital devices in the classroom. With the support of educators, the 1:1 program will provide a learning advantage for middle school students and help USD 231 continue to prepare youth for the rapidly changing world.
The 1:1 Initiative not only provides equal learning for students, but opens doors to unlimited educational and learning possibilities. With the implementation of the program, teachers are afforded greater opportunities and additional tools to enhance lesson plans, create collaborative project research, boost student engagement, and ultimately, prepare students to be college and career ready.
Parents of a middle school student are required to attend one Informational Meeting on the Chromebook Initiative. In addition, incoming freshmen will be receiving a Chromebook for the first time as well, and parents of these students will be required to attend an informational meeting prior to school starting in August (exception: If a parent has already attended as part of the freshmen orientation or because of a sibling).
Two meeting dates are available below to choose from with more to be scheduled in the fall. The meetings are brief, but provide an overview of the program as well as responsibilities on the part of the student/parent.
More information about the program is available on the district website, www.usd231.com, and click on the 1:1 Initiative on the left menu.
