Donald Dale Eastland, 85, of Gardner, Kan, passed away June 19, 2016.
Dale was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Olathe to Allen Morris and Ruby Blanche (Dunham) Eastland. He married Peggy Jo Brown in Ft. Scott on Dec. 19, 1951. Dale was a life-long area resident except while serving his country in the Navy. He retired from the Navy in 1968 after 22 years of service. Dale was a union laborer for Local #1290 in Kansas City, Kan; retiring in 1989. He was a 48 year member and past Commander of the LeRoy Hill Post #19 American Legion in Gardner. Dale loved to play “Texas Holdem” and enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy, in 2012; brothers: “Shorty” Francis Eastland, Morris Eastland and Harold Eastland. Dale is survived by daughters: Kay Sneed (Charlie), Lawrence, Kan., Nancy Bickley (Walt), Gardner and Brenda Davis (Eric Haney), Edgerton; sisters: Irene Peer, Gardner, Nadine Paulsen, Olathe, and Sue Pickell (Don), Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral service 10 a.m. June 24, 2016, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery with military honors. Visitation 6-8 p.m. June 23, 2016, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion LeRoy Hill Post #19 or Crossroads Hospice.
