Clarence “Paul” Thomas, 85, Gardner, passed away June 9 at Olathe Medical Center.
Paul was born July 26, 1930, in Bloomfield, Mo., to William Harvey and Ruby (Elmore) Thomas. He grew up in Argentine, Kan., where his family farmed, then Paul moved to Kansas City, Kan., where he spent most of his life and later followed family to Gardner.
Paul married Joanne L. Hammons on Aug 21, 1952, in Arkansas. He was a retired painter and maintenance worker at Providence St. Margaret’s Hospital, Kansas City, Kan. Paul was a member of the Painter’s District Council #3. He was a member of Stony Point Christian Church, Kansas City, Kan., Masonic Lodge, Kansas City, Kan., and Optimist Club, Kingman, Kan. He loved playing cards, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. Paul will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne, in 2008; daughter, Kathy Lyn Woodson in 2003; siblings: Lucille, Charles, John, Lester, William, Estel, Barb and Anna Faye. Paul is survived by son, Keith and wife Rebecca Thomas, Gardner; six grandchildren: Jason, Laurie, Abigail, Gracie, Hanna and Riley; four great-grandchildren: Christian, Peyton, Haviland and Benjamin; brother-in-laws, Bob Shirley and Roscoe Davis; sister-in-laws: Carol Thomas and Mary Thomas and son-in-law, Tom Woodson.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 25, 2016, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, (913) 856-7111. Private family inurnment Stony Point Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Assoc. Condolences may be left at
