A 2-0 Regional 4A loss to Ft. Scott brought the season to a close for Coach Will Meier and his Spring Hill varsity baseball team.
Cody Lucas pitched well enough to win hurling six innings of two run baseball. But the Bronco bats went silent and Spring Hill saw its season end abruptly.
“We were just unable to get some timely hits,” said Meier. “Despite the loss, I was real proud of the kids effort this season.”
Spring Hill, 11-10, ended regular season play with a doubleheader split with rival Louisburg.
In the opener, Ivan Hughes crushed a two run homer as Spring Hill won 6-3.
Lucas was the winning pitcher, and Matt Fitzgerald earned a save.
It was a different story in game two as Louisburg bounced back for a 7-1 win.
Austin Reeves took the pitching loss for Spring Hill.
The sub state loss ended the careers of seniors Ivan Hughes, Connor McIntosh, Cameron Mills, Michael Werlein, Gavin Benedict, Austin Reeves and Kyle Jorgensen.
“We had just three players with varsity experience, but several stepped up and we played as a team,” said Meier. “Offensively, we struggled to score runs but our defense was consistent.”
