The Blazers track teams turned in some top performances at their home Invitational last week.
On the girl’s side, GEHS pushed Olathe East to the brink before bowing 162-159 in the team race. Paola followed with 137, Olathe Northwest 79, Mill Valley, 73, Blue Valley Southwest, 37, and Louisburg, 5 points.
The Blazers boys tallied a fifth place total of 89 points. Again, Olathe East won the title by a 145-129 margin over Frontier league powerhouse, Paola.
For the girls, Cortlyn Tryon had another big day racing to gold in the 200 meters in 26.45 and second in the 400 meters in 1:02.19.
Abbie Lane continued to excel in the 300 meter hurdles clocking a second place time of 48.7 seconds, while Haylei Bell took fifth in the same event in 51.08.
As usual, the Blazers dominated the pole vault arena. Karli Smith cleared 10’0” to take second. Abby Buie took third with a 10’0” vault and Kayla Burcham, fifth, 9’6.”
Cassidy Androff claimed silver with a shot put of 38’3,” while Lauren Strick was third at 36’10” and Macey Elkinton, fifth, 34’7.”
Strick also took second in the discus with a toss of 100’9” and Androff added fifth place points with a 90’9” effort.
Buie threw the javelin 119’1” for third while Heather Culbertson, fourth, 108’10” and Brenna Davidson, fifth, 106’9.”
In the relays, GEHS took fifth in the 400 and added second place points in the 1600 and 3200.
For the boys, Jazz Davis gave GEHS a gold medal clearing 13’6” in the pole vault. Davis Tropansky took second also with a 13’6” clearance and Tom Fabing, fifth, 11’0.”
Sprinter Matt Summerlin added third place 200 meter points with a timing of 23.04 and took fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.34.
Senior Andrew Sprague made the most of his final gold medal mark of 158’8.” Sam Stranathan took fourth with a 138’7” effort.
Marshall Carpenter took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 44’9” and Sam Stranathan took sixth with a throw of 44’6.”
Silver medals also went to Josh Muse with an excellent 6’2” high jump and Trenton Cochran with a 1600 clocking of 4:40.3.
In the relays, GEHS took fourth in the 400 with a time of 45.5 and fifth in the 3200 in 8:48.09.
