Short on players, the lady Blazer soccer squads dropped an 8-0 and 4-0 EKL decision to State ranked Blue Valley Southwest last week.
“Our team has been plagued with illness and we’ve had to rely on our younger players to step up,” said Coach Walt Cochran. “We had several freshman step up and play significant minutes against a dominant Blue Valley Southwest team.”
Despite the numbers, GEHS played solid defense the first 15 minutes as senior goalie Taylor Stewart made some great saves. Southwest fired 19 shots on goal early on and then pushed numbers forward versus sophomore center backs Rylee Ebert and Lilli Clark.
GEHS trailed 5-0 at half and saw Southwest add three more second half goals to post the 8-0 wins.
“We competed well and I was real proud of our freshman Luaryn Peterman, Fiona Turner, Sophia Pogue and Lexi Bryan.”
It was the same story in JV action as Southwest posted a 4-0 win.
The loss failed to overshadow solid performances by Kaylee Gaut, Jamie Gaither, Lauryn Peterman, and Ashlyn Carlson.
