The Blazers varsity baseball team continued its winning ways with a doubleheader sweep of defending 5A state champions Blue Valley Southwest last week.
GEHS, 5-9, won the opener 6-5 and turned back the Timberwolves, 3-2 in the night cap.
The Blazers have now won four of the last five games.
“I was so proud of how the kids played defeating the defending 5A State champions,” said Coach Corey Schrack. “The kids have really worked hard and we are headed in the right direction.
In game one, a 6-5 win, Hunter Fretz earned the pitching win in relief of Brett Sherman. Nolan Beets got the save.
Andrew Halverson had two RBI’s and Kolbee Finnell had three RBI’s, including a fifth inning bases clearing triple. Finnell had the game winning RBI.
It was the same story in game two as GEHS claimed a 3-2 win.
This time, Reid Frase was the winning pitcher throwing six innings allowing just one run. Beets again earned the save.
Like in game one, Halverson and Finnell provided the key hits.
