John McDonald, founder, Boulevard Brewing Company will be the key note speaker at the Gardner Edgerton Chamber of Commerce May 3 at Mildale Farm, 35250 W 199th, Edgerton. Social hour begins at 5:30 with dinner and business and citizen of the year at 6:30 p.m.
The Boulevard story began in 1988, when founder John McDonald started construction of the brewery in a turn-of-the-century brick building on Kansas City’s historic Southwest Boulevard. A vintage Bavarian brew house was installed, and the first batches of beer were produced in the fall of 1989. That November, the first keg of Boulevard Pale Ale was delivered-in the back of McDonald’s pickup truck-to a restaurant just a few blocks away.
As featured speaker, McDonald will provide insights from his career building one of Kansas City’s most iconic brands and share what’s in store for the future.
Boulevard Brewing Company has grown to become the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest. McDonald says their mission is simple: to produce fresh, flavorful beers using the finest traditional ingredients and the best of both old and new brewing techniques.
