With the aid of mild weather during the winter and early spring, workmen have been making good progress on a new motor vehicle overpass that will span the railway’s double main tracks on 159th Street, northeast of Gardner. Piers for the large bridge have been constructed and the first large support beams for the deck have been set on the east end. This overpass will eliminate a low-speed and somewhat dangerous crossing that is frequented by large dump trucks going in and out of two nearby rock quarries. Railroaders refer to the site as “Rock Crusher Road.”  It is anticipated that there will be more big rigs using the roadway in coming years as more warehouse distribution centers are developed in an area on the east side of the New Century AirCenter. This overpass site is about 1 mile east of old U.S. 56 Highway. This roadway connects with I-35 slightly more than  mile east of the railroad tracks.
