The Gardner Edgerton Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year.
“All finalists will be recognized in late April and awards given at the annual dinner on May 3, which is open to the community,” said Jason Camus, chamber president.
The public may nominate a deserving individual or business from the Gardner or Edgerton communities (and New Century for business nominations).
Self-nominations will also be accepted.
Nominees and winners do not have to be members of the Gardner Edgerton Chamber of Commerce.
History of the citizen and business of the year awards is a bit sketchy, but Camus said the first plaque is dated 1966 and ends in 1994. Also, according to chamber records, from 1995-2012 the business award was done jointly with the Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corporation as part of the state’s program.
“2012 was the last year we did it with the EDC,” Camus said.
Currently, the chamber has a selection committee including two chamber members, Camus and two members of the Gardner Rotary.
“The citizen of the year will be jointly done with Gardner Rotary Club,” Camus said. “Gardner Rotary Club will co sponsor (the award) from here forward, and the winner will be bestowed with a Paul Harris Fellow.”
Nominees should have had a significant impact on the community either as a volunteer or thru good character, accomplishments, community betterment and humanitarian activities.
To be considered, the Business of the Year must be located in Edgerton, Gardner or New Century AirCenter.
Business nominees should demonstrate exceptional growth, revenue growth, innovative products or service, exemplary customer service, volunteer impact or community work, and/or economic support of the area business community.
Not eligible for nomination are chamber board members, city and elected officials (past elected officials) or deceased; and for business of the year nominees may not be government organizations or non profit entities.
Nominations may be made thru the Chambers website.
