A young, but talented Blazer girls varsity soccer squad opens the season March 23 at home against perennial powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas.
“We return one of the youngest teams in program history,” said Coach Walt Cochran. “We have a strong group of freshman and sophomores to build on the next few, years.”
Cochran will have senior leadership from captains Lyric Henderson and Taylor Stewart. Henderson is a four year varsity player and seasoned in her role in the midfield. Taylor returns to her role as goalkeeper.
Rounding out the senior leaders will be Karee Hustedde. She missed most of last season due to a concussion, but returns to play a key midfield role.
Defensively, Brianna Nava and Blair Pfeifer are top returners and expect quality time from junior captain Sydney Pugh and sophomore Rylee Ebert.
Other top juniors include Brook Boyer, Megan Weatherington, and Rachel Ploetz.
Cochran will develop a very strong freshman class this spring. Eleven freshmen are rostered on the JV level.
“It will be exciting to see this group develop over the next four years,” added Cochran.
