The Lady Blazer track squad is eager to take things to the next level this Spring.
Coach Larry Ward welcomed a talented group of track stars on Feb. 29 in preparation for an April 2nd opener at Shawnee Mission South.
“The 2016 season should be better than recent squads with eleven state qualifiers returning,” said Ward.
Leading the way will be seniors Karli Smith (third in pole vault at State), Abby Buie (sixth at state in javelin), Abbie Lane (eighth at state in 300 hurdles), and Miranda Tenove (State relay).
Last season Buie was a state medalist in the javelin with a throw of 130’3” while Lane brought back a state medal with a 300 hurdles time of 48.16.
Other state medalists included Heather Culbertson (javelin, 126’10”), Karli Smith (pole vault, 10’0”), and Cassidy Androff (shot put, 35’2”).
Returning state qualifiers include Cortlyn Tryon (200 and 400), Taylor Carpenter (100), Lauren Highfill (800 relay), Kelsey Leffert (Triple Jump), Miranda Tenove (800 and 400 relay), and Larissa Weidler (800 and 400 relay).
