The second phase of converting the Gardner-Edgerton Schools camera system from analog to digital was approved March 7 by the USD 231 school board.
Bruce Kracl, director of operations, said 41 cameras in six buildings were installed last Fall, and 14 buildings were left for a total of 182 cameras.
“It [second phase] would start in the next month or two through Summer of 2017,” he said.
Three of the facilities include the Trails Program, the Advanced Tech School and Gardner-Edgerton High School.
Midwest Digital presented the lowest bid of $175,996, Kracl said.
“But due to the nature of the project, we are asking for up to $200,000”, he said. “This increases the contingency up to 14 percent.”
Kristen Schultz, board member, asked why there was such a difference in costs between bids.
“There was a significant difference on the labor side,” Kracl said.
Funding will come through additional bond money left over from 2012 and 2016 bonds.
