Outscoring Blue Valley West 19-11 in the second quarter, the Blazer boys varsity basketball team handed Coach Jeff Langrehr his 300th career win last week.
GEHS, 5-9, trailed 8-9 after one quarter, but went up 26-19 at halftime. Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter before the Blazers took control with 12 fourth quarter points.
The Blazers second quarter featured four three-pointers by Devan Toomey and Nate Wagner to get a seven point halftime lead. GEHS shot 9-9 at the free throw line to preserve the win in the final minutes.
Nate Wagner led the way with 21 points, including several late game rebounds. Toomey added 13 points, and Bryson Rohr had 12 points. The trio of Toomey, Wagner, and Rohr accounted for 46 of the Blazers 48 points.
Conner and Hunter Boyt played key defensive roles and Jordan McIntyre took a couple of late game charges.
The game marked the 300 career win for Langrehr.
“I want to thank my wife, and family, the many players, current and past, my assistants and administrators,” said Langrehr. “It’s been a challenging and fun endeavor to be a head basketball coach for 22 years. I’m real happy for this team’s accomplishment cause these kids have worked so hard for everything and deserve special success.”
Langrehr also has accomplished the feat as a High School baseball coach, accumulating 345 wins.
“I estimate that I’ve coached over 1500 games in the summer in both baseball and basketball. It’s been a rewarding and fun ride.”
