Using balanced scoring, the Blazer wrestlers brought back an eleventh place finish from the Newton Tournament of Champions last weekend.
“It was one of our best showings in years and we improved from last year’s 20th place finish,” said Coach Jeremy Williams. We had five individual players and I was real proud of the effort.”
Leading the way was senior Andrew Sprague. He was ranked number one at 220 pounds and reached the finals. Unfortunately, he lost a close 7-6 decision to Beeny Hernandez of Garden City.
Senior Dustin Carsten took third at 182 pounds while senior Jacob Bonham took sixth at 126 pounds.
Senior Justin Sikes also took sixth at 195 pounds, Drake Taysom, seventh.
On another front, GEHS entered 12 JV wrestlers in the Topeka High Invitational. Tristen Martin took first at 195 pounds, and Angel Santander took third in the same weight class.
