The cold weather caused problems for some area residents and businesses this weekend when temperatures dropped to single digits with windchills below zero.
Crews were dispatched to a total of four calls for no water and one sewer call. Three employees responded during the weekend totaling six hours of overtime.
“Allow faucets to drip during extreme cold weather to prevent freezing,” said Brian Faust, Gardner public works. “Open cabinets to allow warm air to reach the pipes, but be sure to remove any stored chemicals in the opened cabinets if you have small children.”
According to local weather reports, the cold weather is here through the weekend.
Residents can help ensure proper home insulation by placing weather stripping around doors and windows, Faust said.
