A four year contract with a base salary of about $161,000 for Cheryl Harrison-Lee, Gardner city administrator, has been published with the council’s Jan. 19 city council meeting.
According to the proposed four – year contract on the city’s website, effective Jan. 19 , if approved by the council , the salary would be $161,000 and a car allowance of $500 monthly. The car allowance would never increase.
Base salary would increase by four percent if performance expectations are met, and by six percent if Harrison-Lee exceeds expectations. Also, upon successful performance evaluation, Harrison-Lee could be eligible for up to a $7,500 yearly bonus.
The Gardner city council had recently met twice in closed meeting to discuss the administrator’s contract, but they did not make a statement regarding any actions taken upon reopening in regular session. The council recessed into a 15 minute executive session during their regular meeting Jan. 4, and also spent two hours in closed session at a special meeting Dec. 30.
Under the original terms of the March 2013 contract, base salary at that time was about $124,000; with successful performance evaluations base salary would be increased 7 percent in 2014, 6 percent in 2015 and 6 percent in 2016. Harrison-Lee was also eligible for an annual bonus of 5 percent of base salary.
As published on the agenda, it appears Harrison Lee‘s annual bonus is capped at $7,500 rather than being set as a percentage, and the car allowance has decreased $100 per month. The proposed contract is for a four year term.
Harrison-Lee had been named one of three finalists for the Lawrence city manager position. The Lawrence Commission has scheduled a meeting for Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. to announce their hire.
