After nearly four weeks of practice Coach Jeff Langrehr will lead his Blazer boys basketball team into action this week at Mill Valley and Bishop Miege.
“This year’s team is in extreme rebuilding mode as we will return very little varsity experience,” said Langrehr, who in seven years at GEHS has a 79-52 record. We have a lot of talent, but will experience some growing pains early.” We are coming off a year when we lost 90% of our teams scoring from five high quality seniors and replenishing with very inexperienced players who will cut their teeth versus two top basketball teams in the State.”
Langrehr will look to five returners who saw some varsity time last year.
Those include 5’9”, junior guard Devan Toomey, 6’3” junior forward Bryson Rohr, 6’3” junior forward Nate Wagner, 5’10” junior Connor Boyt, and 6’3” junior forward Jacob Garrett.
Senior leadership will come from 6’3” center Jordan McIntire and 6’0” guard Hunter Boyt.
Looking to make solid contributions will be 5’9” junior Austyn Hatton, 6’ sophomore shooting guard Jace Sprague, 5’9” junior guard Blake Nichols, 5’9” junior guard Trystan Tovkach and 6’3” junior forward Anthony Reed.
Langrehr has also liked the promise of Tydus Webb, a 5’10” sophomore guard.
The Blazers opened at Mill Valley December 7, and then travel to Miege December 10. After that they meet Olathe North and Blue Valley Southwest.
“I don’t think you could have had picked four tougher teams to open with,” added Langrehr. By Christmas, we will have a good idea of where we are.”
