Donald Eugene Lehman, 83, of Gardner, KS, passed away Dec. 3, 2015 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa.
Don was born April 3, 1932 in Meridan, Kan to Karl Edmund and Dorothy R. (Cordonnier) Lehman. He grew up in Meridan, Kan where he graduated from high school. Don was an Eagle Scout who also served in the US Navy. After his service he returned to Gardner in 1954. He attended KU and Washburn Univ. where he majored in Banking and Finance. Karl, Don and Dana owned Farmers Bank and Trust in Gardner from 1953-1994. He married Carol Voss on Feb. 20, 1982 in Overland Park, Kan. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gardner .Don was an avid recreational pilot, served on the Gardner City Council and was Past-President of the Gardner Chamber. He was a musician who played trombone in a swing band. Don was a die-hard Chiefs’ fan who was a season ticket holder from the Municipal Stadium days and enjoyed tail-gating in his “Chiefs’ Mobile” for many years with family and friends. Above all Don loved his family and cherished his time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Peggy, in 1979 and son, Jay Lehman. Don is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; daughters, Becky Stratton and husband Brent, Kansas City, MO and Janie Lehman, Gardner, KS; sons, Gene Lehman and wife Irene, Gardner, KS and Jim Lehman and wife Shellie, Gardner, KS; six grandchildren, Alina Lehman, Regina Lehman, Luke Lehman, Emmy Smith, Keaton Campbell and Kara Campbell; great grandson, Calvin James; brother, Dana Lehman, Gardner, KS and “man’s best friend,” Buddy
Memorial service will be held 11:30 am Tue., Dec. 8, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church of Gardner, 138 E. Shawnee, Gardner, Kan. Inurnment follows at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation 10:00 am before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice or Honor Flight, Inc. which flies veterans to Washington DC.
