The Kansas City Royals announced several moves this week to set the club’s 40-man roster for the offseason reserve list deadline, according to a press release.
The Royals have selected the contracts of left-handed pitcher Matthew Strahm, right-handed pitchers Alec Mills and Kyle Zimmer, infielder Ramon Torres and outfielders Brett Eibner and Bubba Starling from their minor league system, adding all of them to the Major League Reserve List.
To make room for all six players on the roster, right-handed pitcher Michael Mariot has been designated for assignment. Following today’s transactions, the Royals have 40 players on their Major League Reserve List.
Derek “Bubba” Starling is a Gardner Edgerton graduate. His contract was purchased by from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
The 23-year-old is now protected from the Rule 5 draft. After a rough 2014 season, the former first round pick made some strides in 2015, slashing .269/.337/.448 with 12 homers, 44 RBI and a 108/37 K/BB ratio in 103 games between High-A Wilmington and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. He’s expected to begin the 2016 campaign back at Double-A, according to the Royals website.
