Construction has reached the halfway mark on a new motor vehicle overpass on Waverly Road just west of Gardner. The bridge being built spans the lead tracks serving the BNSF Railway’s Logistics Park Kansas City intermodal center, which opened two years ago. This photo shows one of six 145-foot long pre-stressed concrete I-beams that were set on piers Wednesday, Oct. 7. Barring bad weather, the overpass project is expected to be completed by the first of the year. Opening of the grade separation will eliminate delays for motorists when intermodal trains are being switched. Increased vehicle traffic is expected on Waverly Road because of a growing number of warehouses in the vicinity of LPKC.
