Kay Nila Jones, 81, of Gardner, Kan passed away Oct. 15, 2015 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Olathe, KS.
Kay was born January 17, 1934 in Anthony, Kan to Robert Bentley and Doris Helene (Baker) Bray. She grew up in Gardner, KS where she graduated from Gardner High School in 1952. Kay had many work experiences which included Hartzfelds on the KC Plaza, the Gardner Post Office, clerk at the Gold Rush Depot and she was USD #231 (Gardner Edgerton School District) Clerk of the Board and Secretary to the Superintendent for 40 years, retiring in 2002. She was an active member of Gardner First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, Elder, Stephen Minister and taught Sunday School. Kay was most recently a member of Gardner First Baptist Church. She enjoyed photography, was a great cook and loved to travel, especially to Israel because of its biblical and historical significance. Kay loved her animals which included several dogs; the last being “Teddy.” She adored her children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert “RW” Bray. Kay is survived by daughters, Pam Hamel, Wichita, KS and Lisa and husband Doug Berg, Olathe, KS; son, Mark Jones and Monica, Gardner, Kan; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral Service 12:00 noon Mon., Oct. 19, 2015 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation preceding the service at 11:00 am.
