Building a 14-0 first quarter lead the Blue Valley North High School Mustangs turned back the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer football team, 42-7, on homecoming night.
North, 5-1, now stands alone atop the Eastern Kansas League. BVN quarterback Joey Dolan lead the charge against the Blazer team. Dolan tossed two, first quarter touchdown passes, and two more in the second period. North closed the first half scoring on a 17-yard Alex Blake run.
Dolan and Blake hooked up for another third quarter touchdown pass before GEHS junior quarterback Griffin Johns finally got the Blazers on the board with a fourth quarter, 8-yard touchdown run.
Despite the loss, GEHS accumulated 167 yards of offense. Sophomore running back Keegan Michael was the workhorse with 120 yards on 25 carries. Kolbee Finnell added 11 yards on three totes.
