Lee Van Tye, 80, of Gardner, Kan passed away October 6, 2015 at ComfortCare Home, Baldwin City, Kan.
Lee was born January 23, 1935 in Tiff City, Mo to Kenneth Franklin and Clara Alice (Seales) Tye.  He grew up in Missouri and then graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1953.  Lee then joined the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict.  He lived in Spring Hill until 2001 when he moved to Nevada, later returning to Gardner.  Lee was a Johnson County Undersheriff for 33 years, retiring in 1992.  He was a member of the Gardner American Legion Post 19, Mason in Spring Hill and just enjoyed working.  He enjoyed working on his farm, boating and spending time in his lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks.  He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jane Nicholson, Joyce Wallenburg and Dee Dee Hurst; former wife Nancy Morrison-Tye and son-in-law Eric Jorgensen.  He is survived by his daughters: Stephanie Lynn Norris and David of Eudora, Kan, Sue Ellen Jorgensen of Paola, Kan and Amber LeAnn Paris and Bruce of Gardner, Kan; siblings: Ramona Allenbrand of Olathe, Kan and Dorothy Elizabeth Reece of Portland, Ore and eight grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Giarraputo, Kyle and Claire Norris, Dalton and Chase Jorgensen and Nathan and Brayden Paris.
Prayer Service will be 10:30 am Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, Kan 913-592-2244.  Burial following at Spring Hill Cemetery, Spring Hill, Kan.  Visitation from 6-8:00 pm Friday, October 9, 2015, also at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com.
