Falling behind 20-0 at halftime, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer football team dropped a 30-7 Eastern Kansas League (EKL) decision at St. Thomas Aquinas High School Friday night.
The Aquinas Saints, 3-2, struck first, taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 67-yard run by quarterback Carter Oderman.
The Saints added two, second quarter touchdowns. Jacob Leikham hauled in a 67-yard strike from Oderman, and Duron Lowe hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Oderman as well.
After a scoreless third quarter, GEHS got its lone touchdown of the
night. GEHS quarterback Griffin Johns, a junior, hooked up with Kolbee Finnell on a 28-yard scoring strike.
The Saints continued to add to their tally, putting 10 fourth quarter points on the board. With the victory, the Saints improved their record to 3-2.
Now 1-4, the Blazers will celebrate homecoming Friday night against Blue Valley North High School. The North squad, 4-1, is fresh from a 27-24 win against EKL rival Blue Valley High School.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the district stadium.
