Placing its offense in high gear, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer soccer squad brought back a 5-1 win from Ottawa High School last week.
After a slow start, GEHS got things going thanks to junior Anthony Oneri’s first varsity goal. It came from an excellent corner assist from Sam Mayeske 17 minutes into action.
Ten minutes later Oneri put GEHS up 2-0 with his second goal. Just before halftime, Dylan Mars put GEHS up 3-0 on a header, thanks to another corner assist from Mayeske.
After halftime, GEHS conceded a quick Ottawa score, but rebounded with goals from Jahmir Clark and Mayeske to post a 5-1 win.
The varsity squad is now 6-5 on the season and hosts Heritage Christian Academy this week.
It was the same winning story for the Blazer JV in a 5-0 win over Ottawa.
Rees Taylor had a hat trick, Jesse Mendez and Jorge Adams also added goals.
