Scoring 10 fourth quarter points, the De Soto High School Wildcats escaped with a 27-24 win over Spring Hill High School last Friday night.
“It was a tough loss for our guys,” SHHS Coach Jason Feeback said. “Hats off to De Soto. They are a good football team.”
De Soto took an early 10-7 first quarter lead thanks to an eight-yard touchdown run and 30-yard field goal.
In between, the SHHS Broncos got a four yard touchdown run by RayQuon Showers. Carver Gertsberger added the successful point after.
The Broncos added to their tally with 10, second quarter points. Gertsberger converted on a 23-yard field goal, and William Lovetinsky hooked up with Nathan Ewing for a 19-yard touchdown strike.
De Soto also added second quarter points, scoring on a three-yard touchdown run just before halftime. They evened the score at 17 apiece at intermission.
Spring Hill went up 24-17 with a third quarter three-yard touchdown run by Tyshawn Straw. Gertsberger added the point after.
However, De Soto would not be denied. The Cat team rallied with 10, fourth quarter tallies to take home the Frontier League win.
Offensively, Straw was a workhorse. He had 37 carries for 152 yards.
SHHS quarterback Lovetinsky did an excellent job running the offense.
“Our team character is starting to show up, and we get better each week,” Feeback said.
Spring Hill, now 1-4, heads to Eudora High School Friday night.
