Carson Harding converted a penalty kick into a score with less than seven minutes remaining in the game to give the Gardner Edgerton High School soccer team a 4-3 home win against Mill Valley High School last week.
Harding had two goals and two assists on the night as GEHS posted a big win versus the MVHS Jags.
Early on, Mill Valley dominated with two goals, but the Blazers fought back with a Sam Mayeske goal from an excellent assist from Harding. With nine minutes left in the first half, GEHS evened the score at 2-2 thanks to Harding converting a penalty kick.
Not done yet, GEHS went up 3-2 on a header by Austin George. The assist came from Harding, who found George on a cross from the corner.
The second half belonged to the Blazer defense. Goalie Tavita Ploetz was solid and got strong support from Jansen Ahrens and Dylan Mars.
With the defense anchored, Harding converted the eventual game winner with a penalty kick.
Mill Valley rallied with a goal with just three seconds left in the game, but GEHS held on for the 4-3 win.
This week GEHS gets back to Eastern Kansas League action with games against Blue Valley and St. Thomas Aquinas high schools.
