After four weeks of practice, the Spring Hill High School cross country teams traveled to Anderson County for their first meet, Sept. 3.
The SHHS boys brought home third place team honors with 65 points, while the girls took fourth place with 94 points.
SHHS junior Dylan Brenneman captured gold in the 5K boys race with a time of 16 minutes and 49 seconds.
Spring Hill’s Trey Mathis wasn’t far behind Brenneman. Mathis took eighth place in 18 minutes and 58 seconds. He was followed by SHHS’ Noah Nemer, who took 19th place, Trevor North in 20th place and Michael Herman in 23rd place.
“Our guys all run smart races.” said SHHS Coach Brent Smitheran. The field went out fast; our kids sat back and set their own paces. That enabled them to move up through the field in the last half of the race.”
On the girls’ team, Bronco Meghan Goff took 12th place in the 5K in 23 minutes and 55 seconds. Ashley Ingram wasn’t far behind. Ingram took 28th place in 25 minutes and 17 seconds, and SHHS’ Lauren Wilson followed closely, finishing in 25 minutes and 19 seconds for 29th place.
It was the first time the girls had run a 5K.
“I’m real proud with the effort,” added Smitheran.
