Betty Lou Smith, 75, of Gardner, Kan. passed away August 27, 2015 at Olathe Hospice House.
Betty was born February 21, 1940 in Monticello, Ky. to Harlan L. and Bertie M. (Perdue) Foster.  She grew up in Monticello, Ky. and graduated from Monticello High School.
Betty married Robert Glenn Smith on September 20, 1957 in Monticello.  They moved to Greenville, Ky and later to Gardner in April of 1965.
She worked as Customer Service Rep. for 30 years at Contel Telephone Co. and then for 15 years at the First Kansas Bank.  Most importantly she was a fantastic wife, an amazing mother and dedicated nana. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Gardner, where she was an active Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and member of the craft circle.  She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Gardner.  Betty was an avid flower gardener, loved playing bunko, a quilter and was a memorable baker that was best known for her cobblers, she was “The Real Mrs. Smith”.  She was an active volunteer for the Autism Community, the Gardner Gold Special Olympics and was the face of AFS in the Gardner Community for many years.  She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Betty SmithBetty was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas “Tommy” Foster and sister, Frances Atkins.  She is survived by her husband Glenn, of the home; sons, Roger and wife Lori Smith of Topeka, KS, Dan and wife Mary Smith of Gardner, KS; daughter, Jennifer Smith of Gardner, KS; two grandchildren, Corinne and Cameron; her special American Field Service foreign exchange children, Tatiane of the Netherlands and Carlos of Chile and sister-in-law Dorothy Foster.
Memorial Service will be 2:30 pm Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, 324 E. Shawnee, Gardner, KS 66030.  Visitation 1:00-2:30 pm before the service also at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Corinne and Cameron Fund.  Condolences may be left at
