With Waverly Road closed south from U.S. 56 to 183rd Street on the west side of Gardner the past few weeks, construction workers have been busy building some of the large support pillars for an overpass bridge. When completed, the overpass will span BNSF Railway train tracks that serve the east end of the Logistics Park Kansas City intermodal center, which opened nearly two years ago. Plans call for the gravel-surface Waverly Road to also be paved between U.S. 56 and 191st St.  The upgraded roadway will better serve a developing complex of large warehouses being built near LPKC.  Five merchandise distribution center warehouses have already been completed and more are planned.
