A 4-H competitor awaits her turn to show off her dog’s obedience skills. During the event, competitors walked their dogs through an obstacle course under the watchful eye of several judges. Dogs were required to sit at certain spots, walk in a circle, walk slowly from one point to the next and face in different directions. The dog show and skills exhibition are one of several animal-showing events throughout the Johnson County Fair. Other shows will include a horse, dairy goat, swine, rabbit, meat goat, bucket calf, sheep, and beef shows. The annual chicken shows have been canceled due to an order from the Kansas Department of Agriculture. In addition to the shows, there will be a variety of demonstrations and other entertainment throughout the week culminating with the Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. on Aug. 1.
