Anthony Howard Wills, 39, of Port Townsend, Wash, formerly of Overland Park, Kan. passed away July 22, 2015.
Tony was born September 13, 1975 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Clifford Harrison and Pamela Ann (Jones) Wills.
He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1994. Tony served in the United States Army from 1994-2000 as a heavy wheel vehicle mechanic and was honorably discharged after achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a volunteer Fire Fighter and EMT for the JoCo Fire District #2 from 2000-2003. In 1996 Tony met his soul mate; he married Shannon M. Branson June 15, 2002 in Olathe, Kan. He then attended JCCC and entered the Respiratory Care Program. He worked for six years at the University of Kansas Hospital as a Team Leader and Respiratory Therapist. People instantly loved Tony upon meeting him. They couldn’t resist his quick wit, warm sense of humor and joyful manner. Tony loved people. It was seen in his interactions with family and friends, the profession he chose and the way he would help a stranger. He loved life, outdoor adventures like fishing, hiking and time spent by the camp fire. He was also an avid Royals fan and had a special bond with his dog Cooper. Tony will be remembered for his boisterous laugh, kindness, his caring and helpful nature, plus his MacGyver-like cleverness. He will be missed by all.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Jane Wills, who was an important part of his life; and grandfather, Clairl Wayman. He is survived by his wife, Shannon who he adored and loved adventuring with; sister, Amanda Wills Garcia of Centennial, Colo; nephews, Austin and Blake; grandmother, Jacqueline Wayman of Albany, Mo; mother-in-law Inez Branson and grandmother-in-law Jean Branson both of Gardner; brother-in-law Jason Branson of Tokyo, Japan; aunts and uncles, Jeffrey and Luz Helena Wayman, Jill and Steve Lockhart; and many cousins.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan. 913-856-7111. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, Kan. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, July 29, 2015 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, CFF.org.
