The city of Gardner has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its fiscal year 2014-2015 budget.
As part of the requirements to receive the award, Gardner fulfilled nationally-recognized guidelines as well as achieved a budget rated “proficient” in four categories. These categories are designed to assess how well the budget serves as:
• A policy document
• A financial plan
• An operations guide
• A communications device
City Administrator Cheryl Harrison-Lee received a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation on behalf of the city. The award reflects the city and its staff’s commitment to meet the highest principles of budgeting, also focusing on the improvement of budgeting quality.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 18,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
The budget process for next year’s budget is underway. Officals must submit next year’s budget to the county and state no later than Aug. 25.
