Cooper McGuire, Gardner, was awarded a Rising Star Scholarship during the 2015 Blue Star Awards. The awards showcase the outstanding achievements and talents of local high school musical theatre students.
Patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Blue Star Awards program at Starlight Theatre recognizes exceptional achievement in musical theatre at the high school level.
The 2015 Blue Star Ceremony gave hundreds of area teens an opportunity to perform musical numbers on Starlight’s Cohen Community Stage.
Forty-eight public and private high schools throughout the Kansas City area produced a total of 57 musicals and participated in the Blue Star Awards. The red carpet ceremony was the program’s culminating event.
The May 21 Blue Star Awards ceremony included musical performances by six schools as well as medley songs and a video montage featuring footage from all 57 productions in this year’s competition.
Special guest award presenters included Kaitlyn Davidson, a Broadway actress and Kansas City native who won the Blue Star Award for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role in 2004 and 2005. Davidson will play the role of evil stepsister Gabrielle in the tour of Rogers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” at Starlight this summer.
