Starlight’s Blue Star Award nominations
include Gardner Edgerton High School
Gardner Edgerton High School’s theatre department received three nominations for the 2015 Starlight Theatre Blue Star Awards for their outstanding production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”
The Blue Star Awards are modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards®. Starlight’s Blue Star Awards, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, recognizes achievement and excellence in high school musical theatre and is the second largest of its kind in the nation.
The program annually serves approximately 5,000 area students who contribute either on the stage or behind the scenes to their schools’ musical theatre productions. For the 2014-2015 season, 47 schools presented 56 musicals.
Adjudicators attend the musical productions of each participating school and provide production critiques to Starlight’s Education Department. Additionally, their comments are compiled and shared with each school’s theatre teacher and students.
Gardner Edgerton received three nominations for Outstanding Costume Design and Construction, Tier 1; Outstanding Lighting Design; and one nomination for the Rising Star Scholarship. The Rising Star Scholarship Award is a $2,500 college scholarship to one male and female senior who has contributed the most to their high school theatre department and demonstrated exceptional theatrical achievement. GEHS Senior Cooper McGuire was nominated for this prestigious scholarship.
The Blue Star Awards Ceremony is free and open to the public and will take place at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, May 21, 2015, on the Starlight Theatre stage. The ceremony includes musical productions by the top nominated high schools as well as lead actor and actress nominees, with presentations by local celebrity presenters.
