Scoring early and often, the Gardner Edgerton High School junior varsity baseball team turned back Blue Valley North High School, 18-9 and 5-0, in an Eastern Kansas League doubleheader at home last week.
In the opener, GEHS unloaded for 19 hits, and the team scored 10 runs in the first three innings.
Jared Highfill had a big night with four hits and four RBIs in the opener. He
collected six hits and six RBIs on the night.
Meanwhile, Nick Salpas was the winning pitcher hurling four innings and allowing just two hits.
Other top RBI efforts came from Chris Davidson, Hunter Boyt, Wade Milburn, Tim Wood and Emilio Oropeza.
In the nightcap, GEHS posted a 5-0 win behind the pitching of Matt Layng. He allowed no runs on four hits and struck out four batters.
GEHS jumped ahead 2-0 in the third inning thanks to the clutch hitting of Tyler Henry and plated three more in the sixth inning.
In the sixth, Wood singled to score Nate Payne and then Highfill’s sixth hit of the night brought home Wood.
