The Blazer Jazz Band traveled to Chicago on March 26, to perform in the Masters of Music Festival hosted by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The students participated in master classes and performed for a nationally recognized panel of judges who gave the band a #1 rating.
In 2014, the band traveled to Atlanta and had the good fortune to meet Martin Luther King’s daughter, Dr. Bernice King, at the Martin Luther King Museum. Band Director Will Biggs said the experience had a profound impact on the students — so much, that he wanted to commission a work for the band in honor of the late Dr. King. ‘In Remembrance of a King’ is an original work in seven connected sections, each reflecting the legacy of this great American. The piece will be premiered at the GEHS Band Concert , 7 p.m., on May 5.
