Louis A. Soetaert, passed away April 21, 2015 at his home in Gardner, Kan.
Louis was born May 22, 1923 in Gardner to Louise (Cashier) and Charles Soetaert. Louis married L. Edith Draper on April 22, 1944 in KCMO. They lived in Spring Hill and then moved to Gardner in 1948. He was a dairy farmer and a truck driver.   Louis worked many years as a driver for Olathe Ready Mix; as a salesman for Sunflower Materials; and he had an entrepreneurial spirit, owning or co-owning businesses that included construction and water-hauling to residential customers. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #541, the Morning Glory Grange and the KC Belgian-American Club of Greater Kansas City, serving as their past President. Together Louis and Edith enjoyed square dancing and traveling to the mountains, especially Yellowstone National Park, with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting big game like elk and deer.   Louis liked to work with his hands.   He completed many woodworking projects, which he took great pride in giving to family members. He was an active member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, serving on the building committee and he was a charter member of the Knight of Columbus, 3rd and 4th Degree. Louis epitomized the traits of the “Greatest Generation”.   He was hard-working, responsible, direct, loyal and patriotic. He had love of family and they were always his priority. He will be dearly missed but we feel blessed he is with Edith again.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Edith in 2013, sister Mary Samyn and brother Adolph Soetaert. Louis is survived by children:   Alice Canaan, and Roger of Wellsville, Kan; Chuck Soetaert and Charlene of Spring Hill; Linda Shippy and Bob of Gardner; Nancy Williams and Keith of Olathe; Donna Chrisjohn and Rick of De Soto, Kan; Allan Soetaert; and Paula Gibson and Reece, all of Gardner; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and sister Martha Petty of Olathe.
