Charles F. “Charlie” Rives, II, 65, of Gardner, Kan, passed away March 25, 2015 at Olathe Medical Center.
Charlie was born November 11, 1949 in Kansas City, Kan to Irene (Flynn) and Charles Fredrick Rives. He was a 1967 graduate of Washington High School in KCKS. Charlie married Donna Jo Irving on February 14, 1979 in KCKS. They lived in Basehor and then moved to Florida where Charlie was a transportation manager for Dominos Pizza in the southern Florida district. Then they lived in Olathe and Edgerton before moving to Gardner in 1992. He was a truck driver for the Union Pacific Railroad in KCMO for 25 years. He enjoyed working on all kinds of engines. Charlie was an avid gear head and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a member of the Teamster Local #41 and the Stony Point Christian Church in KCKS. He enjoyed drinking beer. Charlie loved spending time with family and socializing with friends. Charlie will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Charlie is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donna, of the home; children Charles F. Rives, III of KCKS, Shanda R. Beilman and Kevin of Rosenburg, Texas, Christopher E. Goin and Rhonda L. Gunn both of Gardner, and Thomas J. Goin of Hutchinson, Kan; half-sister Patricia Rives; 13 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 3, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Gardner, 324 E. Shawnee St. Inurnment at a later date. There will be a Celebration of Life later that afternoon at the Tumbleweed in Gardner. Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, 913-856-7111.
