School district officials may stabilize the southwest corner of Gardner Elementary School this summer. Gary Diener, in a report to USD 231 board of education members, wrote that the southwest corner of the building has settled over the years.
“While it does not appear to be getting any worse, cracks along the brick mortar lines and interior walls and floors are evident,” he wrote.
Some renovation in that section of the building is ongoing, and Diener wrote that now may be a good time to address that corner. According to preliminary estimates, stabilizing the corner may cost $60,000. If approved, the work would be coordinated with other renovation projects at Gardner Elementary set to occur this summer.
