It was a tough road for Wheatridge Middle School boys basketball teams on Feb. 26 as all four squads fell to cross town rival Trail Ridge Middle School.
The seventh grade JV WMS squad played a close game the ended in an overtime thriller. Coaches called it one of the team’s best of the year with solid contributions from all players.
Despite great play from WMS’ Justyn Newman, Kevin Casey, Jailyn Feller, Nick Scalzi, and Chance Delaney, the Mustang team lost to the TRMS Huskies in a 35-33 nail biter.
It just wasn’t the WMS seventh grade varsity team’s night either. Baskets were tough to come by.
The Wheatridge squad managed to keep the score close, aided by Marcus Thomas’ 10 points. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the TRMS team. The Huskies won by 7 points, 39-32.
The WMS eighth grade junior varsity was looking to get its second win of the season.
Though the Mustangs gave a great effort, they could not seal the victory.
The eighth grade varsity team came out strong against the Trail Ridge team on Feb. 26. However, the Mustang squad couldn’t keep up with the Huskies.
Carson Miller, WMS, scored seven points, and Ethan Walker netted five. Jordan Feller landed four points. Kaden McKenna and Riley Deiderich each chipped in three points.
Though WMS’ Ty Bradford caused defensive problems for the Huskies all night, the Huskies came out victorious, 46-27.
