Morris E. Eastland, 95, of Gardner, passed away February 17, 2015 at his home tended to by his family
Morris was born Sept. 10, 1919 to Allen and Ruby (Dunham) Eastland. He was raised in Olathe and graduated from Olathe High School in 1936. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1941-1945. Morris married Myrtle Elizabeth Clark on July 29, 1946 in Rogers, AR. They lived in Ft. Scott and Olathe before moving to Gardner in 1953. He was President of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local Union #714 in Olathe for 29 years, Masonic Lodge #19, Olathe, KS, Scottish Rite, Kansas City, KS, Abdallah Shrine, Overland Park, KS ,American Legion Post 19, Gardner, KS and VFW Post 6654, De Soto, KS. He was one of the most giving, sweet, genuine, and loveable people ever known…with a kind and gentle soul that touched so many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Myrtle; daughter Kathryn Kramer; brother Francis “Shorty” Eastland; grandson Chris Hilton and great-grandson Dustin Donegan. Morris is survived by his children Sharon DeFreece, Gardner, KS, Earl “Buddy” Hall, Olathe, KS, Linda and husband Daniel Carroll, Abilene, KS, Harold “Gene” and wife Nancy Eastland, Paola, KS, and Scott Eastland, Gardner, KS, 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Irene Peer, Nadine Paulsen, Harold and wife Betty Eastland, Dale Eastland, Sue and husband Don Pickell and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tues., Feb. 24, 2015 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, KS. Visitation 6:00 – 8:00 pm Mon., Feb. 23, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or the Kansas Masonic Cancer Research Institute.
