Seniors Kyle Hultgren, Brett Wright and Nash Bostwick scored 42 of Gardner Edgerton High School’s 52 points, leading the Blazer basketball squad to a big 52-43 upset of number-one ranked St. Thomas Aquinas.
“I thought our defensive pressure was the best it has been all season,” said Coach Jeff Langehr. “We were active from start to finish and allowed very few easy baskets.”
GEHS, 3-5, built a 34-18 halftime lead and took control with nine, third quarter points.
This is the second time this season GEHS knocked off a ranked opponent. The Blazers turned back Olathe North High School in the third game of the season.
Against St. Thomas Aquinas, Hultrgen led the way with 18 points, while point guard Wright had 14 points. Bostwick added 11 points. Devan Toomey, Bryson Rohr and Garrett added three points apiece.
“Our seniors led the way, and other kids stepped up to key the win,” added Langehr. “Rohr and Garrett each had three first quarter points to take us to an early lead.”
