Pam Stranathan is no longer “interim” superintendent. Members of the USD 231 Board of Education approved a two-year contract giving Stranathan the top job in the district through at least 2017.
After more than an hour in executive session on Jan. 12, board president Rob Shippy announced the board will offer Stranathan a two-year contract, effective this July, to remain in the leadership role.
Stranathan became the district’s head executive in February of 2013, after a divided board ousted former superintendent Bill Gilhaus and the district’s second and third-in-command, Christy Ziegler and Lana Gerber.
Following a contentious board meeting on Feb. 28, 2013, Stranathan was given the title, “interim-superintendent.” She’s served in the position ever since.
Last month, a divided board voted against posting a job opening for the USD 231 superintendent’s job. During that December meeting, Shippy announced the board would do a formal evaluation and likely offer Stranathan a more permanent position.
Stranathan’s contract was not available to The Gardner News at press time.
