Henry “Hank” Broockerd, 91, of Spring Hill, Kan. passed away December 22, 2014 at Olathe Medical Center.
Hank was born March 31, 1923 in Overland Park, Kan. to Gustaff Henry and Mary Louise (Soetaert) Broockerd. He attended Olathe High School and later received his G.E.D. Hank was a member of the United States Army, serving in WWII. He married Pauline Jesse Yackle on November 9, 1946 in Paola, Kan. They moved to Spring Hill in 1949. Hank’s vocation was carpentry but his most enjoyable career was driving a bus as “Gramps” for Olathe Schools He was a devout Catholic and belonged to the Spring Hill American Legion Cole-Smith Post #350. Hank loved gardening and dancing.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline, in 2007; daughter, Diana Meek and four newborn great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children: Dennis (Jo) Broockerd, Stilwell, Debra (Jim) Cropp, Fairfield, Ohio, David (Bonnie) Broockerd, Osawatomie, , Douglas (Dana) Broockerd, Spring Hill, and Dawna (Michael) Buchholz, Spring Hill, siblings: Jim (Leita) Broockerd, Overland Park, August (Twila) Broockerd, Martin City, M0 and Adolf “Gus” Broockerd, Martin City, Mo; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 900 S. Honeysuckle Dr. Olathe, Kan. 66061. Burial with military honors following at Hillsdale Cemetery, Hillsdale, Kan.. Visitation 4:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster, Spring Hill, KS 66083 (913) 592-2244. Rosary 6:00 pm following the visitation also at the funeral home. Memorials will benefit American Legion Auxiliary Cole-Smith Unit #350.
