For the second time in a week, the Spring Hill High School Broncos lost a close two-point game.
After a narrow loss to Blue Valley Southwest High School on Dec. 14, the Broncos pushed Paola High School to the brink before bowing 48-46.
Paola converted a lay-up with 2.5 seconds left to take the lead. Spring Hill got fouled, but missed the front end of a 1-1. The Broncos got the rebound, but failed to convert the basket.
“Our kids are putting themselves in position to win,” said SHHS Coach Wes Book. “Now, we just need to continue to focus on doing the little things it takes to win close games.”
The loss failed to overshadow excellent offensive outings from Ivan Hughes, who had 16 points and Danny Hodge who scored 15 points.
Other scorers included Trey Heinrich with six points and Ty Heinrich with five points. Chance Hollern earned four points, Ryker Johnson scored three, and Charles Elam banked one point for the Broncos.
