School officials presented information about increasing the school district’s local option budget (LOB) authority on Dec. 18. State statute allows school boards to assess a local tax rate of up to 33 percent of the district’s general operating budget, which is provided via state taxation. School boards must seek voter approval to tax at a rate higher than 30 percent.
The Gardner Edgerton School District will seek just that — greater taxation authority of up to 33 percent — in a mail-in ballot election. Registered voters will receive ballots sometime after Jan. 7. Ballots must be returned to the election office by Jan. 27 to be counted.
The district will host another LOB forum at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8 at Trail Ridge Middle School.
