Melvin Claude Murry, 79, of Spring Hill, KS passed away December 11, 2014 at Olathe Hospice House.
Melvin was born Nov. 4, 1935 in Odessa, MO to Frank William and Mary Catherine Francis (Barker) Murry. He grew up in Odessa. Melvin married Mary Lucille Cole on April 26, 1957 in Odessa. He started servicing sewing machines in Higginsville and later worked for Smith and Co., Paola, KS and the Bill Kaiser Co., KC, MO. They moved to Spring Hill in 1969. Melvin served as city and rural Fire Chief in Spring Hill for 18 years. He had also served as Civil Defense Director in Higginsville, MO, Odessa, MO and Spring Hill, KS where he started the storm spotters program. He will be missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and two sisters. Melvin is survived by his wife Mary of the home; daughters Teresa and husband Jeff Randall and Stacy Murry, both of Spring Hill, KS; sons Clayton and wife Linda Murry and Keith and wife Deborah Murry, both of Spring Hill, KS; four grandchildren: Tiana, Ashly, Kendra and Kristen; five great-grandchildren: Cadence, Kyleigh, Audra, Margot and Charlotte and brother John Robert Murry, Ridgedale, MO.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sat., Dec. 20, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster, Spring Hill, KS (913) 592-2244. Inurnment follows at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation 12:00 noon before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Playground Equipment Fund at Murry Park” for Spring Hill, KS. Condolences may be left at
